Obituary: Paz Omega West

Paz Omega West, affectionately known as Ms. West or Heidi, was a beacon of light and joy to everyone she encountered. Born on June 25, 1955, in Calbayog City, Philippines, Paz lived a life characterized by her selfless nature, spirited zest for life, and passionate devotion to her family. She departed from this world on November 23, 2024, in Holland, MI, after a sudden heart attack, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Paz’s journey led her from the tropical warmth of the Philippines to the welcoming community of Holland, Michigan, where she made a lasting impact on all those she met. Paz had a unique ability to spread happiness and comfort to those in her care, treating them with a kindness and compassion that transcended the ordinary.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Paz’s family was the center of her universe. She is survived by her loving children, Jennifer Zavala (née Edwards) and her husband Felix Zavala Sr., Pamela Tedder (née West) and her husband Stephen Tedder, and Patrick West and his wife Mitchelle West. Her grandchildren, Felix Zavala Jr., Carlos Edwards Zavala, Jennifer Zavala, Corbin Tedder, Connor Tedder, Lilly West, Lexi West, Nolan Milliman and Cheyenne Strasser will forever cherish the memories of their grandmother’s unwavering support and the joy she brought to their lives.
Paz’s interests were as diverse as they were heartfelt. She was an avid bargain shopper, always on the lookout for the best deals at garage sales, much to the dread of her family. She was a familiar face at her grandchildren’s various activities, cheering them on with an enthusiasm that was both endearing and infectious. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her fondness for fishing and her frequent visits to the beach, where she found peace and contentment in the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun. As well as her enthusiasm at all the natural treasures she and the grandkids lugged home!
In the words of the great poet Maya Angelou, whose sentiments reflected Paz’s own approach to life, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Paz made everyone feel loved, valued, and important, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her kindness.
Paz Omega West lived her life with a joyous heart and a generous spirit. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, laughter, and selflessness will continue to inspire and guide us. Paz’s life reminds us that the richness of our days is measured not in the possessions we acquire but in the lives we touch and the love we share.
As we bid farewell to Paz, we hold close the memories of her unwavering love, her infectious laughter, and her boundless capacity for giving. She was a treasure to her family, a blessing to her friends, and a gift to all who knew her. Paz Omega West may have left this world, but the light she shone upon it will never dim.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church located at 100 St. Peter Dr Douglas, MI 49406 on January 25th at 11 a.m. All are welcome.
