Obituary: Robert Allen, 77

On March 19, 2022, Robert James Allen passed away peacefully in his home in Douglas at the age of 77.
Robert was born on June 26, 1944, in Holland. He graduated from Holland High School in 1962.
Bob enlisted in The United States Air Force and served his country for four years, then was employed by The Bell Telephone Co. in Holland. He worked there 30 years before his retirement. He also was a volunteer fireman in Holland.
Bob married Judy Japinga in 1972 and they raised two sons. He was very involved with his boys’ sports activities, seldom missing any practices or games.
He enjoyed taking his family on vacations or just spending time at home enjoying their swimming pool. Bob enjoyed playing cards, watching movies and going out to dinner with friends.
He was very honest and responsible with integrity and good character. People enjoyed being around him. Bob was very friendly and always available to help someone in need. He will be sorely missed by many.
Bob was preceded in death by his father Raymond H. Allen, mother Doris (Dory) Allen and brother Dennis Allen.
He is survived by his former wife Judy Japinga Allen, sons Mitchell and Kelly Allen, grandchildren from Mitchell Wyatt and Faelynn, plus grandchildren from Kelly Alyssa, Max and Jude. He is also survived by his brother Blair Allen and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Committal Service with honors will be held at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek. The time for the service will be announced. An announcement of a Celebration of Life gathering will also be at a later time.
