It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Royal Remington on December 11, 2024 in Allegan, Michigan. Ron was born on July 13, 1937 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Ron grew up in Bloomingdale, Michigan and was a graduate of Bloomingdale High School.
Ron served in the Navy, from 1954 through 1958, sailing from Long Beach, CA through much of the South Pacific and enjoying his time and duties on various ships. Ron had a long and successful career as a quality assurance professional for over 30 years at Fuller Transmission/Eaton Corporation in Kalamazoo MI, as well as at BLD Products in Holland, MI and Allegan Tubular Products in Allegan, MI. Because of his skill and experience, Ron traveled all over the United States and even internationally (India, Canada and Mexico), solving problems with customers and improving processes within his company.
Ron loved people. He frequently asked probing questions of those he’d meet because he genuinely wanted to get to know them. He was often found helping and serving others, both friends and strangers. Building accessibility ramps for those in need through a ministry at Dunningville Reformed Church where he attended for decades, serving his friends and the community at numerous Masonic lodges, solving problems for residents in the area through 8 years as the Township Supervisor of Valley Township in Allegan County or lending a hand to someone in need by offering a prayer, the use of a car or whatever might be needed; all these are examples of how Ron lived his life.
Ron loved knowing about places and enjoying nature; camping and hiking, trips to Tennessee and Kentucky and just being outdoors at home. Often you could find him chopping wood, sitting by a fire in the backyard, scouring a map, a magazine about the Smoky Mountains, or a book about Lake Superior; planning or dreaming about the next camping trip. More recently, he loved sitting in his living room with his beloved Rascal (a cute Schnauzer who lives up to his name), keeping track of the wildlife that abounds at his home; deer, turkeys, Sand Hill Cranes, woodchucks and more.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Carolyn (Lugtigheid) Remington; son Steven Remington (Nancy), and was the proud and loving grandfather to Matthew Remington (Anna) and Sarah Remington. He was preceded in death by his son Todd Remington, sister Marilyn Remington (Bob), brother Ken Remington (Elizabeth) and his parents Royal and Erma (Brindley) Remington.
Ron’s family wants to extend sincere appreciation to the leaders and staff at Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan and especially to the care givers at Comfort Keepers of Holland for the respect, love and dignity they helped provide in the last season of his life.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, December 18 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Gorden Funeral Residence in Allegan, MI, with a Masonic Rites ceremony 7:00pm. Visitation will also take place Thursday, December 19 from 11:00am to Noon at Dunningville Reformed Church. The funeral service will follow at Noon at the church.
