Rosemary (Toots) McKinnon passed away at her home in Allegan on July 10, 2024. Rosemary was born December 2, 1932 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Keith and Georgia McKinnon. She graduated from Hopkins High School in 1951 where she received athlete of the year.
Writing for the Allegan Gazette, the Grand Rapids Press, and Wayland Globe was enjoyable. She also took wedding photos. She published a book about Hopkins called Hopkins Picture History. She worked in the Hopkins school kitchen for many years. Taking a course for in-home nursing care was a challenge, also at times, very fulfilling. This lasted 17 years in Kalamazoo and Dowagiac, retiring at age 75.
Surviving are her daughter Terri Lemley, son Bruce (Mary) Hitt, all of Allegan; four grandchildren, Nancy Lyons, Leanne (Andi) Charmley, Johnathan (Kaci) Hitt, and Justin (Emily) Hitt; great-granchildren, Lucas Lyons, Brooke Lyons, Gabriella Hitt, and Carson Hitt. Proceeded in death by granddaughter Paula Lemley; two brothers, Richard (Bill) McKinnon and Douglas McKinnon; son-in-law Harold Lemley; and long time housemate Jane Reinsma.
Per Rosemary’s wishes, cremation has taken place, with no services. Many thanks to Wings of Hope Hospice for your excellent care and compassion.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Wings of Hope Hospice, Allegan.
