Stanley Duane Sommer “Stan” age 83 of Albion passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at Ascension Borgess hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born Sept. 28, 1941, in Albion the son of Oscar and Leona (Rustenholtz) Sommer. Stan was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Mark.
On July 22, 1961, Stan was united in marriage to Jeanette “Jean” (Craaybeek) in Albion. In addition to his loving wife, Jean, of 63 years, Stan leaves his son, Steven (Rachele) Sommer; daughter-in-law, Christine (Mark) Sommer; four grandchildren: Nicholas Sommer, Jacob (Beth) Sommer, Dean Sommer, Kyle Sommer; great grandson, Thomas Sommer; three sisters, Sandy Dorer, Wanda (Justin) Mears, Sue Green; and many extended family and friends.
Stan was employed as a superintendent of utilities for the City of Albion for 38 years. He also handled the sewer system for Duck Lake for 39 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who was a true handyman at heart. He proudly built his own home and enjoyed helping others with their projects. He loved snowmobiling, tractor runs on the Mackinaw Bridge, eating ice cream, his daily coffee group, and playing with his grandchildren, especially his new great grandson, Thomas. He was very talented at getting babies to sleep when he would hold them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Stan’s family will celebrate his life with a memorial service on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, with a visitation at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 100 Luther Blvd., Albion, Michigan with Pastor Paul Koehn officiating.
