It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stanton E. “Stan” Fisk. On July 25, 2024, at the age of 83, Stan unexpectedly left this world of natural causes in Wyoming, Michigan, enveloped in the love and memories of a family that meant everything to him. Stan was born on October 10, 1940, in Port Huron, Michigan, to the late Elmer and Bernice (Stanton) Fisk. Stan graduated from Owosso High School in 1958. He proudly served his country in the Army, spending two years in the field artillery branch where he operated the M-101A1 105mm Howitzer. While serving his country he was stationed in Fort Lewis Washington, where he met the love of his life, Linda Booker. Stan and Linda married on December 18, 1965, at the Allegan Congregational Church. His sense of duty in the military was matched by his commitment to his work. An avid car enthusiast, Stan had a particular fondness for imports which carried over to his profession. He worked in the automotive parts department for several dealerships in Holland and Grand Rapids and retired in 2009. Stan’s work ethic and dedication were examples to all who knew him. Beyond his professional life, Stan was a man of many interests and talents. A gifted brass musician, his passion for the trumpet, tuba, and baritone led him to play daily for his enjoyment and the enjoyment of others. He played for several bands and most recently was an integral part of the Grand Rapids Accordion Ensemble. Stan’s love for the great outdoors was evident in his joy for swimming in Dumont Lake, and his leisure hours were often spent engrossed in books or imparting a love for life to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stan will be remembered as the kind of person who never met a stranger; his ability to befriend and relate to everyone he met was one of his most remarkable qualities. No matter where he was or whomever he was with, Stan’s presence illuminated the space around him. We take solace in knowing that Stan’s legacy will echo in the countless lives he touched with his generous spirit and loving heart. His absence will be deeply felt, but his memory will glow brightly like the many notes he played — each one a testament to a life lived with fervor and grace.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda (Booker) Fisk; children, Stanton Jr. (Kirsten) Fisk, Jennifer (Andy) Bishop, and Benjamin (Erin) Fisk; siblings, Fred (Chieko) Fisk, and Mary Jo (Ron) Nienhuis; grandchildren, Preston (Sophia) Lord, Kilee Fisk, Annabel, Ellie, and Colby Bishop, Liam and Harper Fisk; great-grandchildren, Laia and Lily Lord; and several nephews.
Stan was predeceased by his siblings Gloria (John) Corbin and Dawn Fisk, whose memories he held close to his heart.
The family will have a visitation on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. All are invited to a celebration of life which will begin at 2:00pm officiated by Kent Wallace. All are also invited for refreshments at the Hartman Conference Center following the celebration of life. There will be a private family only graveside with military honors at Poplar Hill Cemetery.
