Obituary: Thomas Arthur Janecke

Thomas Arthur Janecke passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on December 14, 1947, in Mason, MI, Tom was the beloved son of Arthur and Marie (Heiber) Janecke. He grew up on the family farm in Mason and graduated from Mason High School with the class of 1966.
Tom dedicated 36 years to the Michigan Department of Transportation before retiring in 2002. A true tractor enthusiast, he loved collecting memorabilia, working on equipment, and attending tractor shows. Known for his exceptional handyman skills, Tom could fix anything. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, often spending his time gardening and traveling.
Tom possessed a vast knowledge of antiques and history, which he eagerly shared with his family and friends. Despite his quiet demeanor, he had a big personality and an even bigger heart for helping others. Above all, he was a hardworking family man who cherished his children and grandchildren, valuing every moment spent with them.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, his great grandson Archer Lee Carmain, his son-in-law John Kovatch, his brother Steve Janecke, and his nephew Keith Janecke.
He is survived by his children: Anna Kovatch, Janice Anderson, Kathy Janecke, and Karl (Dawn) Janecke; his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Opa”: Jessica (Andrew Kovatch) Howard, Tim (Rebekah) Howard, Joseph Kovatch, Emilie Kovatch, Ryan Kovatch, Andria (Michael) Jolgren, Allen Anderson, Anikin Anderson, Miranda (Austin) Carmain, and Martin Janecke; his great-grandchildren: Hunter, Hayden, Karlee, Ayden, Landen, and Jacob; his brother Sam (Cindy) Janecke; his sister-in-law Alice Janecke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service was held at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids chapel.
