Otsego tennis opens league season with two victories

The Otsego girls tennis team opened the Wolverine Conference portion of its schedule with a pair of 8-0 wins.
The Bulldogs shut out Paw Paw on Wednesday, April 20, before doing the same to Vicksburg on Monday, April 25.
In the Paw Paw match, Otsego dropped two or fewer games in six of the eight flights.
No. 3 singles Claudia Conde, No. 4 singles Sidney Morris, No. 2 doubles Sydney Grile/Margherita Bietti and No. 4 doubles Sophie Maxwell/Sydney Holland led the way with 6-0, 6-0 victories. No. 1 singles Aly Aldrich and No. 3 doubles Jenna Ballman/Kaitlyn Payseno won by 6-1, 6-0 scores, while No. 2 singles Lexi Layman won 6-1, 6-1.
The No. 1 doubles team of Madison Kroes/Anna Moore dropped the first set of their match 6-3, but bounced back to take the next two 6-0, 6-4.
“They started to come to net and played more aggressive,” Otsego coach Jen Aldrich said of Kroes and Moore.
Aly Aldrich had the lone 6-0, 6-0 win against Vicksburg, doing so at No. 1 singles.
No. 3 singles Conde, No. 2 doubles Grile/Bietti and No. 3 doubles Ballman/Payseno each dropped just one game.
Two matches went three sets, with Morris winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 4 singles and the No. 4 doubles team of Maxwell/Holland winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
