PLAINWELL—When the girls tennis teams from Otsego and Plainwell squared off on Wednesday, April 23, the match at No. 3 singles provided the most excitement.
In the end, Bulldog Lydia Griffith prevailed 6-7 (2), 7-5, 6-2 over Trojan Anna Hall.
And Otsego won the other seven flights as well, as the Bulldogs posted the 8-0 victory.
Also winning singles matches for Otsego were Aly Aldrich at No. 1 (6-0, 6-2 over Brooke Pazderka), Lexi Layman at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0 over Alydia Thom) and Sara McCaw at No. 4 (7-6 (5), 6-2 over Claire Pipkorn.
Doubles results were: No. 1 Sydney Grile/Anna Moore def. Tessa Marietta/Aila Jammal 6-0, 6-0; No. 2 Hailey Burd/Ellie Korringa def. Ava Stanton/Elise Fountaine 6-0, 6-0; No. 3 Cierra Swope/Reaghan Higgins def. Alison VanDyke/Brynn Merica 6-0, 6-0; and No. 4 Dani Sallee/Emilia Harainen def. Maddie Rose/Audrey Thom 6-1, 6-0.
Otsego picked up another 8-0 Wolverine Conference win on Monday, April 29, when it faced Paw Paw.
The Bulldogs won all matches in straight sets and didn’t drop more than four total games in any flight. Three flights—Layman at No. 2 singles, McCaw at No. 4 singles and Korringa/Burd at No. 2 doubles—won by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
