Varsity baseball traveled to Three Rivers Friday to open conference play. The DH ended in a split for two tightly contested games. In Game No. 1 the Red Wolves outhit the Wildcats but just couldn’t get the key hit and lost a close one 3-1.
Andrew Lehto pitched 4 strong innings, allowed 4 hits, 2 ER, and struckout 5. Leading the offense was Ryan Holmes. Ryan went 2-4. Andrew added an RBI single. Carson DeYoung, Landon Buhl, and Caden Bowen each added singles.
In Game No. 2 the Red Wolves jumped on the Wildcats early and held on to a nailbiter for a 6-5 victory. Gunnar Goodell got the win on the mound going 5 tough innings, allowed 2 ER, 5 hits, and struckout 5.
“Landon pitched the final 2 innings, struckout 3, and ended the game with a bases-loaded strikeout. Ryan kept swinging the hot stick going 2-4 again. Landon crushed a clutch 2 RBI double. Andrew added a single and an RBI,” coach Derek Vanderburg said. “Bryn Carlsen added a deep double in his 3 at bats. Maverick Johnson added a single and BB. Caden had 3 BB, an RBI, and a game saving catch in left/center gap to protect a two run lead.
Varsity Baseball had a busy weekend traveling to the Williamston Invite Saturday. In Game No. 1 the Red Wolves squared off against State ranked Williamston. The Red Wolves jumped out to an early lead but Williamston pulled out a 6-5 victory in the last inning. Bryn Carlsen had the hot bat going 2-2 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Andrew went 2-3 and Ryan was 1-2 with an RBI, 2 BB, and 2 SB. Caden and Landon each added singles.
In Game No. 2 the Red Wolves played Kalkaska. The Red Wolves scored early and often while cruising to a 20-3 victory. Remi Dempsey was dominant on the mound and at the plate. Remi pitched 4 innings, allowed 1 hit, 0 ER, and 6 K’s. Remi went 3-4 with a deep double and 4 RBI’s.
Andrew went 4-4 with 2 SB, BB, and 3 RBI’s. Gunnar went 2-4 with a double, BB, 2 SB, and 2 RBI’s. Caden went 2-4, BB, 2 SB, and 2 RBI’s. Gavin Allers was 2-4 with an RBI. Grant Sholander, Hayden Criger, Ryan, and Landon each added a hit and a RBI.
The Red Wolves are now 4-4 on the season.
