PAW PAW — It was Paw Paw 55, Sturgis 44 in boys basketball action.
Paw Paw had quarter leads of 12-6, 27-25, and 40-25.
For Paw Paw, Truman Brennan: 18 pts, 3 Reb, 7 Steals, 3 Assists
Kaelin Tate: 14 pts, 7 Reb, 3 Steals, 4 Assists
Coach Aaron Beery: “The Red Wolves started the season with the same defensive performance we are accustomed to. They limited the Trojans to just 29 points through the first 28 minutes of the game, before the starters exited the game.
Truman Brennan paced the Red Wolves in scoring and Kaelin Tate stuffed the stat sheet with his all around play. It was a total team effort as all players got into the game. The Red Wolves shot 64% from 2s and only 17% from 3, so there is room for growth in this season.”
The Red Wolves will be back in action on Tuesday as they head up to Hudsonville to play Unity Christian.

Mattawan wins 53-50 over Lakeshore Friday
“A tough first half shooting and foul trouble sees us fall behind by double digits,” coach Joshua Brown said. “Enter Junior Ryan Willis off the bench. Ryan hit a big 3 at the buzzer at the end of the third to cut the lead to 8 for Lakeshore and we roared with a 19-8 fourth quarter to come from behind to beat Lakeshore to stay undefeated.
“Ryan led us with 16 pts. Lucas Koning hit his only basket in the clutch with a minute left and Liam Walsh knocked down his only 3 to ice the game. Everett Wherley knocked down 2 free throws and we iced a well fought game.”
