PAW PAW — It was Paw Paw 51, Plainwell 41 in boys basketball action last week. Paw Paw had quarter leads of 19-12 32-16 and 45-29.
“The Red Wolves came out fast in the first quarter,” coach Aaron Beery said. “Tough defense and ball movement on offense were the keys to the fast start. The second quarter was lock down defense holding Plainwell to 4 points in the quarter. The Red Wolves got out and ran in that quarter opening up a 16 point lead heading into the half.
“The 2nd half was much tighter as the Red Wolves and Trojans played even in the 3rd quarter. The Red Wolves made some uncharacteristic errors in the 4th quarter allowing Plainwell back in the game. Paw Paw only scored six points in the fourth quarter, all from the free-throw line.”
Red Wolves advance to 5-0 on the season after beating Edwardsburg 39-36 as well on Tuesday. They also improve to 3-0 in the Wolverine Conference which puts them on top.
