Paw Paw driver arrested after vehicle crashes into house

LAWRENCE TWP. – A 21-year-old Paw Paw woman faces a charge of operating while intoxicated, (OWI) after she allegedly crashed her SUV into a portion of a Lawrence Township residence, Thursday, Nov. 14, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office. Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott said that Sheriff’s deputies were called at approximately 4:30 p.m. for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a residence in the 50000 block of 63rd Avenue, Lawrence Township. At the scene, deputies located the vehicle and driver outside of the vehicle. The driver, whose name was not released pending arraignment, was uninjured. Contact was also made with the homeowners, who were outside the home at the time of the crash and uninjured. Deputies reported the driver had been traveling on 63rd Avenue when she lost control while maneuvering a curve in the roadway. The SUV then drove into a portion of the residence at that location. During the investigation, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol prior to the crash. Deputies developed enough evidence to charge the driver with operating while intoxicated. She was subsequently transported to the Van Buren County Jail.
