The Paw Paw Fire Department responded to a structure fire Thursday, June 12, shortly after noon. Paw Paw Fire Chief Kyle Richardson said the fire appears to have started from debris removal on the exterior of the residence where the exterior wood started on fire. The fire rapidly got into the chimney chase/walls and extended into the attic. Richardson said firefighters did a great job by containing the fire quickly by gaining quick access into the attic where a hose line was advanced to stop further spread. Holes were also cut in the roof, and a second handline was advanced to the exterior to assist in extinguishment of the blaze. The fire department was assisted by Paw Paw Quick Response, Vân Buren Central Dispatch Van Buren Emergency Medical Services and Michigan State Police. The fire department cleared the scene at 1:30 p.m.
