PAW PAW – A 60-year-old Paw Paw man faces multiple charges, including flee and elude, and outstanding warrants, after he led authorities on a slow speed pursuit that began in the Village of Paw Paw.
Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott said on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at approximately 1 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop on Gremps Street, near Industrial Street, on a Chevy pickup truck after observing a wanted suspect driving the vehicle. Deputies made contact with the driver who refused to exit the vehicle. The driver, Jeffrey Scott Henry, was a wanted suspect.
Henry allegedly threatened to damage the deputy’s vehicle and stated he was not going to exit the vehicle or comply with commands, according to Sheriff Abbott. The deputy observed the driver place the vehicle into four-wheel drive and into gear attempting to drive away. The suspect then fled leading deputies on a slow speed pursuit through the Village of Paw Paw. The suspect attempted to get back to his residence during the pursuit and out of concern for officers’ safety, Sheriff Abbott was able to get in front of the suspect’s vehicle bringing the pursuit to an end.
The driver who was currently out on bond for separate charges was taken into custody and is currently lodged at the Van Buren County Jail.
