Paw Paw players stay active

PAW PAW – It’s the middle of summer and typically high school sport teams stay active with open gyms, camps and many other activities.
Paw Paw baseball coach Derek Vanderburg is coming off a very successful spring season and many players continue to be involved in the sport during the offseason.
“I do not have a summer team,” he said. “Of the 15 varsity players this year 11 play travel ball. This is a higher number than I usually have had in the past. Some of the travel teams they are on include:
Around the Horn- Kalamazoo area; Lumberkings-Kalamazoo area; B45- Kalamazoo area; Top Tier- Chicago area; West Michigan Broncos- Kalamazoo area.”
Vanderburg has mixed emotions over baseball players being active in the summer.
“I believe travel ball is not for everyone,” he said. “For those interested at playing at the next level it provides exposure and reps at a high level they may not see during the high school season. I feel it is important to let the body rest and play other sports also.”
Many baseball players for Paw Paw have also been involved in other sports.
