PAW PAW – The Paw Paw Service League recently made a $2,000 contribution to the American Legion Post 68, to purchase Ballistic Shields for the Paw Paw Village Police Department.
GVA (Gun Violence America) reported 971 cases of school shootings across the United States in 2024, (gun was brandished, fired, or bullet hit school property) with many of them having no victims or injuries. The database has tracked 112 school shootings in which a victim was injured or killed. The deadliest incident took place in the Atlanta suburb of Winder on Sept. 4 at Apalachee High School and left four dead.
The American Legion Post is seeking contributions from Paw Paw area residents to purchase three shields (one for each patrol car) According to Bob Adams, Paw Paw American Legion Post 68, Operation Shield Chairperson, the reason for three shields for the police department is “because they always have a car on the road in Paw Paw and it would only take three minutes to respond to any school.”
The project has the support of the Paw Paw Village Council.
The Paw Paw Service League has been in existence for approximately 40 years, and it is estimated that the group has given out $400,000 during the past four decades, roughly $10,000 a year. Two recipients of financial donations from the Paw Paw Service League include the Paw Paw Community Chorus and the Paw Paw Art League.
Checks can be made payable to PNC Bank and mailed to the American Legion, PO 19, Paw Paw, MI, 49079, Bob Adams, Chairperson.
