PAW PAW – Paw Paw football coach Dennis Strey and his Red Wolves have less than a month to go before the practice season officially kicks off on Aug. 12. But there’s still work to be done.
“We’ve been working really hard in the weight room,” Strey said. “We’ve had great attendance and have it available in the morning and at night to lift. So we’re able to get most of our high school guys in the weight room.”
But there have also been conditioning and 7-on-7 passing sessions against several area teams. Wayland came to Paw Paw for a 7-on-7. Paw Paw was set to play Caledonia at home on Monday, for a 7-on-7.
Attendance at these sessions are highly encouraged by coaches.
“Nothing can be mandatory until Aug. 12,” Storey said “That’s our first mandatory day of practice. One of the things we stress is how important it is to be here in the summer and the guys who are here in the summer are the ones who are preparing themselves for that first day of practice.
“If you spend summer on the couch and with air conditioning and you have to start on Aug. 12, everybody is going to know, and you’re going to know and you’ll be struggling.”
