OTSEGO—On Wednesday, Dec. 18, the Otsego wrestling team hosted a Wolverine Conference quad that also featured Plainwell.
The Bulldog and the Trojans each finished the evening with a 1-1 record, as both bested Sturgis but fell to Three Rivers.
Otsego’s win over Sturgis was by a 55-24 score, while its loss to Three Rivers was 59-23.
Plainwell beat Sturgis 72-6 and fell the Three Rivers 46-22.
Securing pins for Otsego against Sturgis were: Brian Johnson at 120 pounds; Lane Blanchard at 157; Vonte Boyce at 175; Kole Engleright at 190; Ryder Balkema at 215; and Ethan Wilson at 285.
Zeke Andrina (126) and Blake Mathieu (144) picked up tech falls for the Bulldogs, while Jialon Herbert earned a 17-11 decision at 138.
Earning wins in Otsego’s match against Three Rivers were Johnson (pin at 120), Blanchard (tech fall at 150), Gabe Conley (pin at 157) and Engleright (pin at 190).
Plainwell picked up seven pins against Sturgis: Tyler Cooper at 120; Logan Miller at 132; Thomas Almaguer at 150; Rickey Lynch at 165; Brendyn Glessner at 175; Truman Summerer at 190; and Carter Ritchie at 215.
Grady Erlandson (106), Ben Lynes (138), Austin Gyorkos (144) and Adin Young (285) each earned a tech fall, while Edwin Johnson V had a major decision at 126.
In the Three Rivers match, Erlanson (106) and Dylan Nieuwenhuis secured pins for the Trojans. Nieuwenhuis won by forfeit in the Sturgis match.
Cooper (120) had a 16-7 major decision, while Lynch (165) had an 8-5 decision and Young (285) had an 8-1 decision.
