PAW PAW – More than 150 people demonstrated in Paw Paw as part of the Take America Back protests held around the country on Saturday, April 19. The protests are in opposition to the Trump administration and Elon Musk’s DOGE.
Protest organizers raised $863 in donations for Eleanor’s Food Pantry in Paw Paw, which experienced cuts from the United States Department of Agriculture via the Feeding America program.
The two-hour event included an appearance of a cardboard cutout on the Maple Lake Amphitheatre stage of Rep. Bill Huizenga-R in a ‘where’s Bill’ parody. Protest organizers said Huizenga has refused to hold town hall meetings with his constituents around the Fourth District who have questions about what is happening in Washington.
As the group traveled downtown, they chanted and waved protest signs with various messages. Signs depicted every issue affecting those from the cradle to the grave with the proposed cuts to Medicaid, a program that provides health insurance coverage from prenatal and infant care to the aged living in nursing homes, as well as education, Social Security, the environment, and many others.
While Indivisible Southwest Michigan hosted the protest, many community members joined in the protest to voice their concerns with the Trump administration.
