PAW PAW – A rally, what would have been the 32nd birthday of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Maple Lake Amphitheatre, Paw Paw, according to organizer Robyn Peake.
Kirk was assassinated on Sept. 10, while speaking at a TPUSA public event on the Utah Valley University Campus.
Local leaders, pastors and others will honor the legacy of Kirk, through worship, prayers and speeches, according to Peake. She said Pastor Don Filchek from ReCast Church and Pastor Gary Napp of Journey Family Church, have both confirmed to her that they will speak at the event.
The public is welcome to attend the event. “It will be a chance to pay respects to honor the wonderful, powerful, conservative voice,” said Peake.
On Sept. 15, a rally was held on the Michigan Capitol lawn. Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt, (R-Porter Township) said at a rally honoring the life and legacy of Kirk:
“Charlie was a good man who treasured his God, his family and his country. He boldly shared his message with others, even those who disagreed with him, and it cost him his life. He was murdered in broad daylight, leaving his wife, children, friends and a nation in sorrow.
“While there are some who celebrate his loss and want the Turning Point movement to be silenced, Charlie’s voice has only been amplified. Although we grieve, we will not be disheartened in our mission to preserve and defend our freedom and our great nation.
“We will continue proclaiming the values of faith, family and patriotism that America so desperately needs – not through violence, riots and destruction, but through words, love and engaging with others in the marketplace of ideas.”
As of Sept. 21, more than 120,000 inquiries have been made in starting TPUSA chapters.
