For more than two decades, The Friends of Ransom Library have sponsored Dr. Seuss Night in honor of the beloved author’s birthday.
And this year’s event—which took place on Tuesday, March 8—was the largest to date with an estimated 400-to-500 people attending.
“Overall, the evening was a success,” Ransom Library assistant director/head of youth services Erin Marsh said. “People seemed to enjoy themselves and were very complimentary about the activities that were available.”
Those activities included stations where children could make necklaces, create their own Seuss character and play games like bingo.
“They had treat bags to take home as well, with cookies, fruit snacks and a ‘red fish,’ which was a Swedish Fish candy that referenced Dr. Seuss’ story ‘One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish,’” Marsh said.
According to Marsh, the event is always a favorite for staff members, according to Marsh.
“Everyone pitches in to help with everything from decorating the building in advance to supervising rooms during the evening,” she said.
This year, staff member Analiese Mattson proved to be a fan favorite with her performance as The Cat in the Hat, which featured her rapping a version of “Fox in Socks.”
“This event is possible thanks to The Friends of Ransom Library,” Marsh said. “Their generous donation of time, funds and treats makes Dr. Seuss Night possible.
“They are always looking for more volunteers. People who would like to become a Friend can contact the library for more information.”
