Are you ready to party, island style?
If so, then Ransom District Library in Plainwell is the place to be on Friday, Aug. 9.
Starting at 6 p.m., the library will host its annual Summer Celebration, featuring music, food, children’s activities and more.
The event, which runs through 8 p.m., is sponsored entirely by the Friends of Ransom District Library.
The Summer Celebration is one of the events Ransom director Joe Gross looks forward to each year.
“We invite everyone to join us,” Gross said. “Let’s get together and celebrate our community.”
As has become tradition, the Kalamazoo-area reggae band Zion Lion will perform and set the island mood.
This will be the third straight year Zion Lion has performed at the Summer Celebration. The band also performed the final concert at the old library building before the new one opened in 2021.
“Reggae music just feels like summer,” Ransom head of patron services Analiese Mattson said. “This really comes across in Zion Lion’s music. They always get the audience on their feel dancing.”
In case you get hungry during the Summer Celebration, three food trucks will be on hand. They are Big Moe’s BBQ, Kalako Street Cuisine and PJW Creole.
Ice cream will also be provided free of charge.
Other activities include the return of Stormy’s Foam Cannon and a bounce house.
