Rebels score four wins in baseball action

Double Header vs. Coosa Valley

Chambers 12, Coosa Valley 2
The Rebels faced Coosa Valley in a double header to start the week and walked away with both wins. In the first game, Coosa Valley got on the board first, scoring one run in the first inning, but Chambers tied it up in the second as Corbin Piper grounded out but advanced Braxton Yerta home in the process.

Chambers put up ten runs in the fourth inning with doubles by Jordan Whaley and Jordan Benbrook and singles by Ben Caulfield, Jeremey Conway, and Piper. The Rebels were not done scoring yet and added one more run after doubles by Caulfield and Benbrook to take the win 12-2. On the mound, Whaley struckout nine batters in three innings while only giving up one run.

Chambers 5, Coosa Valley 0
In the second game, the real action started in the third inning when Jo Jo Hendrix hit a fly out to center field advancing Jeremy Conway home in the process. The Rebels added two more runs in the fourth when Ben Caulfield got things going by hitting a double on a fly ball to left field. Jordan Whaley then knocked the runner home on a single. Jeremy Conway reached on an error sending Whaley home. Whaley and Ashton Chambers both recorded singles in the fifth to send in two more runs for Chambers making the final 5-0.

On the mound, Taylor Birmingham pitched all five innings striking out eight batters while only allowing one hit and only walking one batter.

Border Wars Tournament
Chambers 4, Glenwood 3

Chambers traveled to Phenix City over the weekend to participate in the Border Wars Tournament hosted by Glenwood. This tournament featured several teams from AISA along with teams from Georgia. In the first game, the Rebels faced AAA power, Glenwood. The Rebels looked to be in trouble as Glenwood scored three runs in the top of the second, but Chambers battled back adding a run when Conway hit a double. Hendrix and Chambers both singled in the third. Kyle Hand reached on an error, and Benbrook drove in two runs to tie the game. Benbrook was then driven in on a Whaley single. Jeremy Conway took the win on the mound, pitching all six innings and striking out five batters in the process.

Chambers 1, Calvary Christian 8

The Rebels then faced Georgia’s Calvary Christian. Chambers’ lone score came on a line drive by Kyle Hand which allowed Jeremy Conway to score. Taylor Birmingham and Jordan Whaley were also able to get hits in the game, but the Rebels were unable to score off these attempts. Whaley took the loss on the mound, giving up four runs on five hits and striking out two.

Chambers 6, Lee-Scott 2

Taylor Birmingham opened things up against AAA Lee-Scott getting a double as the lead off batter. He was then able to score on a passed ball. In the third, Jordan Whaley hit a two run RBI as he doubled on a line drive to center field. Whaley then scored on a passed ball to put the Rebels up 4-0. The Warriors put a run on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring on a passed ball. The Rebels added two more scores in the sixth as Birmingham hit another double sending in Jo Jo Hendrix. Kyle Hand then advanced Birmingham home on a single. On the mound, Jordan Whaley took the win, striking out three batters in three innings while giving up one run and one hit and walking two. Corbin Piper also pitched three innings in relief striking out five batters while allowing one run and one hit.

Chambers 3, Evangel Christian-Alabaster 8

The Rebels were eliminated from the tournament after facing Evangel Christian-Alabaster. Chambers jumped out to a two run lead in the first after Taylor Birmingham and Ben Caulfield both hit doubles while Evangel allowed two Rebels to reach on errors. Evangel answered in the bottom of the first adding one run of their own. Evangel then took the lead in the third inning, but the bottom of the fourth proved disastrous for the Rebels as they gave up five runs. Chambers scored one more run in the fifth when Jordan Benbrook hit a double and was batted in by Ben Caulfield.
