SHEPHERD—Talk about symmetry.
Competing at the Bluejay Invitational in Shepherd on Friday, May 3, both the girls and boys track teams from Saugatuck finished with 78 points. And both placed third in the eight-team Small Division with that point total.
Pewamo-Westphalia and Fowler finished first and second, respectively, in both the girls and the boys competitions.
The 100-meter hurdles proved to be the most successful event for the Saugatuck girls, with the Trailblazers taking the top two spots. Mazie Robison won at 15.26, with teammate Novella DeGraff close behind in the runner-up slot at 15.86.
DeGraff also took second in pole vault at 10-0 and fourth in the 300 hurdles at 50.13, while Robison was third in the 100 at 13.13.
In the relays, the Saugatuck girls were second in the 4×100, fourth in the 4×800, and fourth in the 4×400.
Cass Stanberry starred for the Saugatuck boys, highlighted by his win in the long jump at 20-10. He also took runner-up in the 100 hurdles (16.89).
In the 1,600, Marcus Silva (4:48.57) and Grant Rehkopf (4:58.28) went third and fourth, respectively, for Saugatuck.
Other top individual-event performances by the Trailblazers included Jaxon Green in the 100 (fourth at 11.69) and Nick Petrik in the 400 (fourth at 54.48).
Saugatuck’s 4×100 relay team placed second, the 4×400 team placed third, the 4×400 team placed fourth and the 4×800 team placed fifth.
