South Haven High School athletics had a unique historic moment last Tuesday as the baseball and softball teams clinched within an hour of each other conference championships on their respective home fields.
First, the baseball Rams defeated Allegan in a unique way as they completed a game that had been rained out midway through the game back on April 15th. South Haven led 4-2 when the game resumed nearly a month later in the fourth inning on Tuesday. The Rams went on to win the game 12-4 to clinch the SAC Lakeshore Divisional Conference Championship with a 9-1 record. It was the first championship for coach Dave McWhinnie’s Rams in a decade.
Over on the softball field the Lady Rams were sweeping a doubleheader over Bridgman, 12-4 and 10-4, to finish with a perfect 10-0 record as SAC Lakeshore Divisional Conference Champions. It marks the 11th conference championship under Hall of Fame coach Wilma Wilson. It is the fifth time the Lady Rams have gone unbeaten in conference play.
