South Haven’s City Clerk, Megan Kiker, was honored with a proclamation at the City Council Meeting on December 16, 2024.
The proclamation from Mayor Annie Brown was given to Kiker, who has been City Clerk since March, 2021, for her “exceptional dedication and tireless work during the 2024 election season, ensuring the integrity and success of the electoral process.”
In South Haven, while the City Clerk has the responsibility to act as the custodian of all papers, documents, and bonds pertaining to other officers and employees of the city as well as other duties, she also serves as the chairperson of the Election Commission conducting all aspects of elections.
Kiker reported that during the November election, 2,479 of the city’s 3,739 registered voters voted and that included 1,190 absentee voting ballots that were returned.
Mayor Brown’s proclamation noted that Kiker’s “leadership, unwavering commitment, and attention to detail have been instrumental in ensuring that the election process in South Haven ran smoothly, efficiently, and in full accordance with the law.”
Following the awarding of the proclamation, Kiker said, “I don’t do the job for the recognition, but I absolutely appreciate the recognition.”
She also said that the November, 2024 election was a success. “This was my first presidential election that I’ve held for the city,” she said, “and the support I got from my staff, the public, and the election workers was absolutely instrumental in my success during the 2024 election cycle.”
