On Sunday, April 13th, a Surrey Township Fire Truck, with two firemen on board, was involved in an accident on 115 while looking for a reported grass fire. As the truck was turning into a driveway, they were t-boned by a car that decided to pass the line of cars, waiting for the truck to turn left.
Thankfully, Surrey Township Fire Department reports that the two firemen only had bumps and bruises and were checked out by the hospital and released. The passenger of the car did not fare as well and was severely injured.
Surrey Fire Assistant Chief Mark Carrow said, “Thanks to all that responded to help our guys and the people in the other car, it definitely could have been worse. Remember to slow down and be patient around fire trucks that are working anywhere near the road you are on. This has been happening all too often lately.”
For now, the Surrey Township Fire Department has a loaner truck from the Michigan DNR until they can find a replacement.
