The three surviving members of the Savage family from Kalamazoo, involved in a fatal car accident, have been discharged from the hospital.
The accident occurred on Sunday, June 30, at the intersection of 136th Avenue and 58th Street in Fillmore Township, Allegan County.
Daniel Savage passed away at the scene of the crash. Mason Savage sustained critical injuries and was on life support until July 6. The family made the difficult decision to discontinue life support and donate his organs. Mason’s donation saved the lives of at least four others.
Joe Josten, Dan’s cousin and manager of the Savage family GoFundMe page shared some encouraging news about the progress of Chelsea, Levi, and Parker.
Chelsea Savage and her daughter Levi were released from the hospital on July 10.
“I wanted to provide everyone with another quick update this morning. Chelsea and Levi have both [been] released and are now both staying with her Mother as they recover.” Josten said. “Instead of inpatient rehab, it was decided Chelsea would be okay doing a few days of outpatient a week so she would be able to visit Parker in the hospital as he continues his recovery. Parker remains in the ICU, but continues to show small signs of improvement each day. Again, I really can’t thank everyone enough for the support everyone’s shown their family. More updates to come.”
Josten said Parker was able to breathe on his own on July 12.
“I wanted to provide everyone with a significant update on Parker. I mentioned a few days ago that Parker had began to breathe on his own, and his care team was finally confident enough to take him off the ventilator yesterday. This is another huge step for Parker on his recovery journey and everyone is extremely grateful. Chelsea and Levi continue to recover together with her Mother. We can’t thank everyone enough. I’ll continue to provide updates as they come.”
Parker was released from the hospital and transferred into a rehab facility on July 16.
Josten wrote “I wanted to provide everyone with another quick update. Parker was released from the hospital yesterday! He will spend the next two months at a rehab facility where his neurologist expects him to make significant progress. Everyone is so grateful for Parker and the progress he’s made, and the support everyone has gotten from the community has been inspiring. I’ll continue providing updates as I get them. Thank you all so much.”
The family has a GoFundMe to help cover medical expenses. So far, the campaign has raised over $53,280 of its $250,000 goal.
