Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Response and detectives from the CID Unit handled a shooting/homicide in the City of Hartford. “I cannot go into details being it’s an open pending case with the suspect in custody. I can disclose an altercation that took place, and ultimately the wife was lodged for the incident. It was an isolated incident with no danger to the public,” said Van Buren County Sheriff’s Daniel Abbott.
Uniform Response assisted in a pursuit of a stolen vehicle/felonious assault with South Haven Police Department. A Sheriff’s deputy was in the area when it started and was able to set up stop sticks as the vehicle was approaching. “Right after hitting the sticks, the suspect driver’s evasive reaction caused him to lose control, hence crashing in a ditch. It should be noted that when tires run over stop sticks, it deflates them steadily and doesn’t blow out a tire and allows the driver to stop prior to the tire going flat,” said Sheriff Abbott.
“I would like to thank everyone who participated this past week in the free adoptions at the shelter. I am pleased to announce every available dog was adopted but one. I believe that dogs are going to be adopted right after I send out this update. To go further, we always appreciate the citizens adopting animals out of the shelter,” said Sheriff Abbott.
“Our office participated over the last few weeks at numerous schools for Career Day. These are always great events and interactions with the kids to enlighten them on what we do and what a great career it can be,” said Sheriff Abbott.
“Uniform Response and a member of our Drone Team assisted Michigan State Police (MSP) with a fatal traffic crash involving a motor vehicle versus horse and buggy. I’d ask that you keep the family and Amish community in your prayers as they deal with this tragedy,” said Sheriff Abbott.
Uniform Response took two different assault calls in the City of Hartford. “After the investigations were completed, the reports were sent to the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office for review for charges,” said Sheriff Abbott.
Uniform Response handled a reckless shooting complaint in Lawrence Township. After the initial investigation, a search warrant was obtained for the residence as the subject from Illinois shooting could not be in possession of firearms. After executing the search warrant, three AR rifles, four handguns, and ammunition were seized. The report was sent to the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office for charges.
Uniform Response handled a PI (personal injury) crash (personal injury) in Antwerp Township. “The investigation found that one of the vehicles crossed the centerline striking the oncoming vehicle head on. The atfault driver was transported to the hospital for her injuries,” said Sheriff Abbott.
