MENDON — An arrest was made Tuesday in connection with three break-ins in the Mendon area over the weekend.

According to Mendon Police Department Chief Mike Kline, a 46-year-old Three Rivers man was arrested in the city of Three Rivers Tuesday. The man is suspected of three break-ins in the Mendon area that occurred Sunday night, April 28, and early Monday morning, April 29, in the areas of Fletcher Street and Main Street in Mendon.

As previously reported, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, on Sunday at 9 p.m., police reported to the 200 block of Fletcher Street for a break-in report. The homeowner returned home after several hours to find signs someone was inside the home while they were gone.

Then on Monday morning, two incidents were reported: one in the 200 block of Main Street at 2 a.m. and another in the 100 block of Main Street at 3:30 a.m. In the 2 a.m. one, the suspect was scared off by the homeowner, and in the 3:30 a.m. one, police reported the homeowner had located a subject inside their residence.

Kline said in an interview Tuesday that the man was arrested after the Three Rivers Police Department saw the suspect walking around the city. Kline said he was called to the city to identify the suspect, and he “positively identified” the man as the suspect in the break-ins.

The man is currently in custody with the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department. The name of the suspect has not been released pending further investigation and arraignment.
