ALLEGAN – Candidates seeking election to the Michigan House and Senate have filed and Commissioner chairman James Storey has pointed out “it’s clear voters need to be sharply attuned to the lines drawn to cut Allegan County into six House and three Senate districts. The names of the candidates who filed for the districts that included parts of the county are listed publicly.”
The state primary election is Aug. 2 while the general election will be held Nov. 8.
Candidates for county voters are as follows:
38th District
Democrats: Joey Andrews and Annie Brown
Republicans: George Lucas, Troy Rolling, and Kevin Whiteford
39th District
Democrat: Jared Polonowski
Republicans: Matt Nilson and Pauline Wendzel
42nd District
Democrat:Justin Mendoza
Republicans: Matt Hall and Gary Mitchell
43rd District
Democrat: Mark Ludwig.
Meanwhile, Storey said, “Fearing the further spread of the avian bird flu and its potential impact on domestic poultry production, the Michigan Departments of Natural Resources and Agriculture have suggested the temporary removal of bird feeders. The agencies fear bird feeders could be a source of spreading the avian flu in areas not yet affected.
“Kalamazoo is the only Allegan neighboring county to have a confirmed case of the deadly virus. With millions of birds raised in Allegan County, authorities are especially vigilant for removing means of transmission such as bird feeders and baths.”
