THREE RIVERS — Three Rivers’ girls’ tennis team wrapped up their regular season this past week, with a win, loss, draw, and participation in the Wolverine Conference tournament.
On May 8, Three Rivers played a weekday doubleheader against Sturgis on the road and Bronson at home, losing 8-0 to Sturgis and tying Bronson 4-4.
Against Sturgis, the closest doubles match of the matchup was the No. 1 doubles match, where Sturgis’ Johanna Royokkers/Bella Currier defeated Three Rivers’ Maggie Gose/Jayna Larson 6-3, 6-3. The closest singles match was at No. 1 singles, where Sturgis’ Rylee Carver defeated Three Rivers’ Arabella Mangold 6-2, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, Gracie Perry of Sturgis defeated Three Rivers’ Lily Zabonick 6-0, 6-0, the lone clean sweep of the matchup.
Against Bronson, Three Rivers got wins at No. 1 singles from Mangold, who defeated Bronson’s Cheyanne Villisan 6-4, 7-5, at No. 1 doubles from Gose/Larson, who defeated Bronson’s Ella Ramsey/Sienna McLatcher 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles from Lucy Olson/Lilah Zabonick, who defeated Bronson’s Sophia Reed/Kyleigh Springman 6-1, 6-0, and at No. 3 doubles from Soreeya Hoeung/Hailey Grubbs, who defeated the Vikings’ Vanessa Carrillo/Kailee Myers in straight games, 6-0, 6-0.
On Monday, the Wildcats defeated South Haven 7-1 in a non-conference matchup to wrap up the regular season. Mangold at No. 1 singles, Lily Zabonick at No. 2 singles and Angeleena Ham at No. 4 singles got wins, while in doubles, Gose/Larson at No. 1 doubles, Olson/Lilah Zabonick at No. 2 doubles, Hoeung/Grubbs and No. 3 doubles and Makenzie Rennie/Alyssa Jimenez at No. 4 doubles got wins.
On Saturday, May 11, to wrap up the Wolverine Conference slate, Three Rivers finished seventh in the Wolverine Conference Tournament held in Plainwell. Mangold finished fourth at No. 1 singles, while Lily Zabonick finished fifth at No. 2 singles.
