Traffic stop leads to numerous drug, weapons charges

WAVERLY TOWNSHIP – A Gobles area woman and Lawrence area man face numerous drug and weapon charges, following a traffic stop in Waverly Township, Friday, July 22, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott said Sheriff’s deputies made the traffic stop on the 2013 Ford CMAX near County Road 665 and Bellware Boulevard at approximately 2:52 p.m. for numerous traffic violations. During the investigation, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and over 30 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales, prescription medications and a loaded 9 mm Sig Sauer handgun were discovered.
Abbott said during the traffic stop/investigation, detectives were able to gather enough information to draft and execute a search warrant at the 47-year-old female driver’s residence located in the 34000 block of Homewood Drive, Gobles. During the execution of the search warrant, additional narcotics were found, as well as two individuals with outstanding warrants.
Charges being sought include possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession of analogues (prescription medications), carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and narcotics search warrant.
The case remains open and under investigation. Additional charges will be sought based on the search warrant.
