Trio arrested for burglary, twenty guns recovered

On Tuesday, March 26, 2024, Deputies with the Clare County Sheriff Office received a report of a breaking and entering of a residence located in the 5000 block of N. Coolidge Ave located in Hayes Township, Clare County. During this investigation, Deputies determined an unknown number of subjects had broken into the residence. Once inside the subjects located a gun safe, and were able to pry the safe open, stealing over twenty guns and a number of other items before fleeing.
During the investigation, Deputies recovered items left behind by the suspects they collected and later sent to the lab for DNA testing. The night following the reported breaking and entering, Detectives with the Clare County Sheriff Office were conducting surveillance on the residence with the belief the subjects had planned on coming back to steal more items from the house. Detectives stopped a vehicle in the area driven by Amanda Rose Almagro a 33 year old Harrison woman, and occupied by a now deceased male from Gladwin. During this stop, Amanda claimed they were in the area looking for a friend who she identified as Seth Justin Riggs, a 29 year old Harrison man. The subjects were released from the traffic stop.
In May of 2025, the Clare County Sheriff Office received results from the crime lab on the submitted DNA. The DNA was identified as belonging to Seth Riggs. Once Seth was located, he was interviewed by Detectives from the Clare County Sheriff Office. Seth admitted he and the deceased male had broken into the residence on N. Cooldige and taken the guns. Seth advised most of the guns had been sold to a 40 year old Harrison man he identified as Shaun Michael Gulley.
On Wednesday, July 09, 2025, Detectives obtained a search warrant for a residence Shaun was staying at located at 1894 Edwin Rd. in Hayes Township of Clare County. With assistance from the Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Task Force, the search warrant was executed on this residence. Detectives located and seized a handgun and several rounds of ammunition linked to Shaun. The following day, The Sheriff’s Office received information advising after learning of the search warrant at his residence, Shaun had buried the guns he had hidden at a different location at a boat launch located in Midland County.
Based on this information Detectives contacted a Special Agent with the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms who were able to locate approximately twenty guns, many of which had been taken from the Coolidge breaking and entering hidden at the Caldwell Municipal Boat Launch in Midland. After the discovery of these firearms, a search warrant was obtained for an apartment in Midland City Shaun had ties to. During this search warrant, Law Enforcement located and seized ammunition and magazines belonging to the guns discovered at the boat launch.
As a result of this investigation, Shaun Gulley, Seth Riggs, and Amanda Almagro were all taken into custody and lodged at the Clare County Jail. Seth was charged with one count of Safe Breaking, one count of Home Invasion 1st Degree, one count of Possession of Firearms by a Prohibited Person, three counts of Larceny of Firearms, six counts of Felony Firearm, and was also charged as a Habitual Offender Fourth Notice. He was arraigned in the 80th District Court Clare County and his bond was set at $100,000/10%. Seth remains lodged in the Clare County Jail.
Amanda was charged with one count of Safe Breaking, one count of Home Invasion 2nd Degree, one count of Larceny in a building, and one count of Malicious Destruction of a Building more than $1,000. She was arraigned in the 80th District Court Clare County and her bond was set at $1,000, She has since bonded out of jail.
Shaun was charged with one count Receiving and Concealing Stolen Firearms, one count Receiving and Concealing Stolen Ammunition, one count Possession of Firearms by Prohibited Person, one count Possession of Ammunition by Prohibited Person, four counts of Felony Firearms, and was charged as a Habitual Offender Second Notice. He was arraigned in the 80th District Court. His bond was set at $60,000/10%. He has since bonded out of jail.
The Clare County Sheriff Office was assisted throughout this investigation by The Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Task Force, The Midland City Police Department, The Midland SWAT team, Michigan State Police BAYONET, and the US Department of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.
