Two millage proposals on Missaukee ballot

LAKE CITY – Missaukee County voters will have two millage renewal proposals on the ballot during the Aug. 2 primary.
The first is for a renewal of millage for services to older persons. It involves a millage levy of 0.75 mills, which is $0.75 per $1,000 on each dollar of the taxable value of all property in the county to continue planning, coordinating, and providing serves to persons 60 years of age or older residing in Missaukee County for four years from 2022 through 2025.
According to county officials, revenues generated would be disbursed to the county, which currently contracts with the Missaukee County Commission on Aging to deliver these services and continue authorization for this special millage above the county’s general tax rate limitation. If approved and levied in is entirely, it would raise approximately $547,844 in 2022.
A portion of the millage would be subject to capture by and disbursement to the McBain Downtown Development and Tax Increment Finance Authorities.
The second millage renewal proposal is for public safety. It would be for six years in order to continue to provide a pubic safety fund to supplement the existing sheriff department budgets.
Lake City and McBain school districts also will seek operating millage proposals of not to exceed 18 mills.
