
PAW PAW – The Paw Paw Fire Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of S. LaGrave Street, here, at approximately 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, for a report of a mobile home on fire with animals inside, according to a press release from the Paw Paw Fire Department.
The first units arriving on scene reported smoke showing from the eves and windows of the home. No one was home during the time of the fire; however, one dog and one cat unfortunately perished due to smoke inhalation. Firefighters were able to suppress the fire quickly and efficiently thanks to the 20 members who responded and with help of all the supporting agencies.
Also assisting at the scene were the Paw Paw Police Department, Van Buren EMS, Van Buren Central Dispatch, Consumers Energy and Midwest Electric.
The exact cause is unknown currently. All units cleared the scene at 9:36 p.m.
Paw Paw Fire Department First Assistant Chief Nathan Jackson said, “The Paw Paw Fire Department would like to extend a huge thank you to all the agencies that assisted. Assistant Chief Jackson also emphasized how well all agencies worked together to help and support the community.”
