Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Response handled a two vehicle PIA (personal injury accident) in Antwerp Township. “It was found that a vehicle exiting a parking lot pulled out in front of a vehicle that was approaching, hence causing a violent collision. The driver in the oncoming vehicle lost her life due to the crash. The passenger in that vehicle and the at fault driver were transported to the hospital for their injuries,” said Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott. The accident remains under investigation and will be sent to the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office once it’s completed.
Uniform Response handled a domestic assault between two brothers in Bangor Township. The report was sent to the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
Uniform Response handled a domestic assault/strangulation in the City of Gobles. The suspect fled prior to deputies’ arrival. They were unable to locate him and are still actively looking for him. The report was sent to the Van Buren County Prosecutors Office for review (seeking arrest warrant).
Dispatch received a call from a motorist on Interstate 94 Highway in Hartford Township about a possible intoxicated driver. Deputies were able to find the vehicle, observed the poor driving, and got it pulled over. After investigating the driver, she was lodged for operating under the influence of alcohol.
“Our office teamed up with McDonald’s at various locations for a Summer Safety Initiative. Our Marine Division is handing out vouchers to kids wearing life jackets, leading by example to help encourage the use of life jackets while boating. We are excited to be able to bring a positive to the kids by rewarding them with a free ice cream cone voucher and it also helps show them law enforcement is here for them in a positive light. A big thank you to McDonald’s for working with us on this initiative, said Sheriff Abbott.
Uniform Response handled a larceny of cell phones in Almena Township. Deputies found through the investigation that two suspects entered a business asking for a tool for help on their car and when the victim wasn’t looking, they grabbed two cell phones off the counter and went back to their car. Two more individuals were in the vehicle in the parking lot and the plate was removed. They were confronted and during the confrontation, one phone was recovered. The suspects fled the scene with the other cell phone. The victim deactivated the phone. “Photos were put out on our office Facebook page and one of the suspects was immediately identified. Deputies are working on the case and after it’s completed, the suspects will be charged for the incident. Thank you to everyone who contacted our office identifying the individual.,” said Sheriff Abbott.
Uniform Response handled a possible theft in progress in Paw Paw Township. The property own-ers observed people walking on their property on their security cameras. Deputies located three individuals there and inquired about them being there trespassing. The female suspect was lodged on a felony warrant and CCW (carrying concealed weapon). “Nothing was taken during the incident, and it’s believed that it was because deputies arrived on scene before they did,” said Sheriff Abbott.
Uniform Response handled a suspicious call in Geneva Township. The call came into dispatch about three kids shooting a gun in front of a residence that they don’t belong at. “Deputies located the three kids, and it was found they were shooting off bottle rockets. No firearm was located, and they were spoken to about what they were doing,” said Sheriff Abbott.
Uniform Response handled a UDAA (unlawful driving away automobile) in the City of Gobles. “A 2006 Kawasaki Eliminator motorcycle, blue in color with saddle bags, with the plate of VU259 was taken from a residence. Anyone with any information is asked to call our office,” said Sheriff Abbott.
