Unconscious person found floating in water hospitalized

South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) responded to a report of a person in distress on Lake Michigan approximately five miles south of the lighthouse on Monday evening. SHAES was dispatched at 6 p.m.
A boater reported finding an unconscious person floating in the water. The boater was unable to get the victim out of the water but successfully placed a flotation device on the person. SHAES responders, who first arrived near 20th Ave., South Haven Township, swam approximately 500 yards to affect a rescue. Other SHAES responders arrived by boat.
CPR was immediately administered and continued until the boat could bring the person to the city’s South Marina where treatment continued. The person was taken to Bronson-South Haven Hospital.
