The January high temperatures have continually been in the teens or low twenties when the average is usually around 30 degrees. Fortunately, thanks to the efforts of Will and Angela Walker, the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and the First Presbyterian Church have established the Allegan Warming Center.
This week, January 18-24, 2026, the Center is open from 5-9pm at Good Shepherd, 101 N. Walnut St. Anyone looking for a warmer place to spend the evening can drop in for conversation, a meal, warm beverages, recharge electronics, and sometimes a movie or a game. Beginning Sun., Jan. 25th, the Warming Center will be at First Presbyterian, 200 Cutler St., where the doors will be open to provide a warm place and meal.
Each evening has team members available to assist with simple needs. This is Allegan’s first formal Warming Center that began operating in December 2025 when the temperature dropped below 32 degrees. The team has been able to assist a number of Allegan’s unhoused and visitors passing through Allegan. No questions are asked. The doors are open and all are welcome. Photo: J. Hotchkiss
