WAYLAND—The Wayland boys cross country team eked out a win by the slimmest of margins at the season-opening Wayland Mini Invite on Monday, Aug. 22.
The buoyed by the winning effort of Devin Weaver (17:48), the Wildcats finished with 28 points compared to 29 for GRTC Peregrines. Hopkins was third with 77 points.
Isaac Dyer (fourth at 18:37), Travis Koon (fifth at 18:39), Dylan Pallett (sixth at 18:39) and James Butler (12th at 19:51) were the other scoring runners for Wayland.
Jack Estelle led Hopkins, placing 17th at 20:25.
In the girls race, GRTC Peregrines won with 20 points, while Wayland (55 points) held off Hopkins (57) for second place.
Olivia Barabas led Wayland with a third-place finish of 22:00, followed by Noelle House (10th at 23:55), Elliott Antel (13th at 24:16), Emma Thayer (21st at 26:37) and Ruby Sidebotham (22nd at 26:51).
The scoring runners for Hopkins were Kambria Moored (sixth at 22:51), Neveah Helderop (seventh at 23:09), Jaeden Harshberger (11th at 24:01), Allison Breining (23rd at 26:55) and Abigail Zalis (24th at 27:08).
