Justin Wickey on Wednesday formally joined Sturgis City Commission, filling a vacancy in the second precinct.
Wickey was appointed to the seat at the board’s May 16 meeting, after an interview session.
He succeeds Rodger Moyer, who resigned in April due to relocation.
Wickey served on the commission previously, departing in 2021.
“I am excited to be able to work with you all,” Wickey said at the meeting. “I’m glad to be back.”
In a separate matter Wednesday, commissioners held the first review of proposed zoning ordinance amendments for residential property, pertaining to color-matching of roofing material and driveway/parking surfaces.
Will Prichard, community development director, outlined updates.
The commission approved the initial reading, with Aaron Miller casting the lone “nay” vote. Mayor Frank Perez and commissioner Cathi Abbs were absent.
Miller’s disapproval is focused primarily on requirements for driveway surface aggregate.
The board will revisit the proposal during a second reading before final changes are approved.
Revisions were discussed by the planning board and city commission during the past few months.
