Work Continues on Briggs Dam in Paw Paw

The Briggs Dam replacement project remains on schedule for substantial completion by the end of the year, according to the Village of Paw Paw. Excavation work is completed, and the project is moving from the “Tearing down” phase to the “Building up” phase. Excavation did uncover the remains of the old water powered grist mill that occupied the dam, and some of the old wooden beams and concrete foundations had to be removed. However, this did not necessitate any design changes, and the concrete labyrinth construction will proceed as planned. The new wooden bridge is expected to be delivered and installed in mid-December. Final site clean-up will take place in the spring.
