Young girl allegedly steals truck, vehicle pursuit by authorities follows

GENEVA TWP. – An adolescent girl faces several charges after she was arrested after allegedly taking a stolen truck on a vehicle pursuit Thursday, Sept. 11, in Geneva Township, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 10:20 a.m., Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a stolen vehicle complaint on County Road 388 in Geneva Township.
A caller said an unknown girl had gotten into his truck and drove off while he was outside of the vehicle making a delivery.
Deputies responded to the area and located the truck traveling eastbound on County Road 388 near Grand Junction. A Sheriff’s deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle when the suspect fled.
During the vehicle pursuit, which lasted several miles, speeds reached 100 mph. Units assisting in the pursuit successfully deployed stop sticks, which led to the vehicle coming to a stop in a field on County Road 384.
The suspect, a juvenile girl, was taken into custody without incident.
Her guardians were contacted, and she was transported to the Allegan Juvenile Detention Center. She faces charges of fleeing and eluding police and unlawful driving away of an automobile.
