2-vehicle crash sends one to hospital with serious injuries

Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbot reported that on July 10, Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched at 3:38 p.m., to the area of County Road 388 and 68th Street in Geneva Township for a two-vehicle crash. Initial callers reported that one of the vehicles was on fire and one person possibly unconscious. Arriving on scene, deputies located two vehicles with heavy damage in front of a local business. Statements provided to deputies, as well as evidence on scene, showed that a 2022 Hyundai was eastbound on County Road 388. It attempted to turn into the local business and was struck by a 2025 Chevrolet headed westbound on County Road 388. The driver of the Hyundai had serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. A Good Samaritan removed the driver of the Hyundai from the vehicle and another Good Samaritan used a fire extinguisher to put out a small fire on the Hyundai. Deputies were assisted on scene by SHAES and Harbor Towing.
