99-year-Old
reognized during Black History
program

On Sunday, February 27, 2022 Pastor Gary L. Dixon and the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Family dedicated their 2022 Black History Program to Mrs. Catherine Crook. The program was titled “I Am Black Excellence”. Mrs. Crook exemplifies this title in more ways than one. She is a true pioneer to Chambers County Black History.
Mrs. Crook has been a vital attribute to the education system of our great county. She contributed to history by being the first african american teacher to segregate Valley High School. With over 45 years in the education sector, she has played a role in so many lives.
Her and her late husband, Milledge Crook; devoted their lives to giving back to the community.
As the MCBC Youth Department played tribute to her through spoken word monologues of her journey from a child, through her college years, on to being a mother, wife, and educator;
Mrs. Crook eyes beamed with joy. They embodied her and showered her with flowers and scriptures that truly describe a woman of God such as herself. She was overwhelmed with emotions during the dedication program as she watched in tears.
She was graced with praises by Ms. Sara Calloway, Mrs. Barbara King, and Lady Carolyn P. Dixon as they delivered powerful words of appreciation on behalf of the entire congregation.
The program ended with the presentation of a beautifully engraved plaque presented by Pastor Gary L. Dixon.
Mrs. Crook life speaks for itself. She is a strong leader, devoted Christian, uplifting mentor, and powerful woman of virtue. We as a community thank her for being our very own example of “Black Excellence”.
