Allegan tennis wins home tournament

Hosting the Tiger Duals on Saturday, Aug. 23, the Allegan boys tennis team won four flight championships to secure top honors.
The Tigers, ranked eighth in Division 4, finished with 16 points, followed by Notre Dame Prep (No. 9 in D4) with 13, Coopersville with 12 and Portland with seven.
No. 2 singles Ezra Smith, No. 3 Carson Woodhams, No. 2 doubles Wesley Goodspeed/Oliver Burnett and No. 3 doubles Gabe Taylor/Charlie Morris all went 3-0 to secure flight titles. That included a pair of three-set wins by Woodhams, who bested Coopersville 6-2, 2-6, 10-2 and Notre Dame Prep 6-3, 6-7(3), 10-4.
The No. 4 doubles team of Sully Morgan/Noah Willett finished runner-up at 2-1, while Deacon Morgan, filling in at No. 1 singles, picked up a win over Portland.
“We had a great day,” Allegan coach Damien Arthur said.
Allegan also hosted back-to-back duals on Wednesday, Aug. 20, and Thursday, Aug. 21.
In the Aug. 21 event, the Tigers beat Lansing Catholic 5-3 and fell to Berrien Springs (No. 3 in D4) 5-3 and lost to Glen Lake (No. 4 in D4) 7-1.
On Aug. 20, Allegan beat Williamston 5-3, tied Traverse City St. Francis 4-4 and fell to Jackson Lumen Christi (No. 2 in D4) 5-3.
