A 56-year-old man is facing multiple felonies, including second-degree murder, after hitting and killing a baby with his truck.
Terry Lee Boss was arraigned Thursday on charges of Second-Degree Murder, Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death and Reckless Driving Causing Death in connection to the crash.
The victim in the crash was 8-month-old Lucia Iris Seifried.
The crash happened the evening of Saturday, April 26, on Baseline Road, near Baseline Lake, west of Plainwell in Allegan County.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) said a pickup truck crossed the center line and side-swiped another truck. That collision forced it to careen off the road and into a group of people standing nearby off the roadway.
Authorities said Seifried was killed while others were treated at a hospital.
After hitting the crowd, the truck rolled, hit a tree and ended up in a shallow area of Baseline Lake. The driver and passenger in the at-fault vehicle were hurt. People in the truck that was sideswiped were not hurt.
Police say alcohol and speed played a role in the crash.
