At a Special Meeting of the Farwell Area Schools BOE held on Tuesday, December 16, the board, after careful consideration, offered Elementary School Principal Carrie Carncross the position of Interim Superintendent for the district. Tom House, the current Interim Superintendent, will continue to serve as the transition takes place to ensure Carncross’ role at the Elementary is filled.
The BOE interviewed two candidates, both internal and both existing principals: Carncross from the Elementary School and Dee Yarger from the High School. It was a difficult decision with two highly qualified and long serving candidates.
“It was both a blessing and a curse,” said one board member indicating the decision that would leave one building without its long time leader. House replied, “That is the good news though, that there are two such great, internal candidates.”
Carncross will serve as Interim Superintendent through the end of the current school year which will end in June of 2026. At that time, after Carncross has had time to understand the role, the BOE and Carncross will consider moving forward with Carcross as the permanent Superintendent.
House, who has served three different times as Interim Superintendent in the area as well as Harrison Community Schools Superintendent prior to his retirement several years ago, was more than happy to see Carncross’ appointment.
“I am honored to have served as the Interim Superintendent and wish nothing but the best for Farwell Area Schools.”
