Motorists travelling on US-131 between Plainwell and Martin should plan for backups and delays for the next several weeks.
On Monday, April 14, the Michigan Department of Transportation began a $1.4-million construction project on the four-mile stretch from the Grand Elk Railroad to just north of 112th Avenue.
The project, which impacts travel in both directions, is scheduled to include concreate pavement repairs, joint resealing and milling and resurfacing of the 106th Avenue ramps.
Motorists should expect weekly lane closures both northbound and southbound from 6 a.m. Mondays to noon Fridays.
There will also be short-term closures of the 106th Avenue ramps. The short-term detour will be implemented from M-89 to 10th Street to 106th Avenue.
The title reads M-89 but the article is about 131.
M-89 does not go between Plainwell and Martin.
